Thank you for participating in the 2024 NJMTA Spring Piano Festival taking place on Sundays, March 10 and March 17, 2024. Here are some guidelines to help make your festival day run smoothly.

Auditions will take place in Mortensen Hall and the Marryott Building of Mason Gross School of Music at Rutgers Douglas campus. Go directly to Mortensen Hall to check in at the registration table first.

 

You will receive a link via email to register for free parking, which is very important to avoid fines.

​

The audition session is 15 minutes during which time the judge will give the student a mini lesson. After the session they will write comments and give a rating. All ratings are final.

​

Students must bring original music to the audition. Both pieces must be solidly memorized. Without solid memorization the highest rating that can be given is a “good.”

Student Dress Code​

• GIRLS should wear a dress, skirt, or dress slacks with a blouse or sweater. No jeans permitted. Dresses and skirts should be at least knee length when seated. Pants must be full length – no capris or yoga pants. Dress shoes and dress sandals with backs are allowed. No sneakers, flipflops, casual sandals, boots or platform shoes. Colored nail polish, rings and bracelets are not allowed.

• BOYS should wear a suit or dress slacks with a dress shirt, sweater, or sports coat. Ties are optional. No jeans or sneakers, please!

A maximum of 2 people may accompany the student into the audition room. NO recording of any kind or use of any electronic device is allowed during the audition time.
